Kop van Zuid urban design and public building

The urban design for this area consist of creating three long zones running its entire length: a middle street composed of former warehouses flanked on either side by high-rise zones.

The design intended to attract the public, takes the best possible advantage of the unique quality of the existing peninsula.

High quality access by public transport has been accomplished by through the Wilhelminaplein underground station, the new tram Plus system, the bus connections, and the entirely renovated NS railway station in Rotterdam Zuid.

A future possibility would be the addition of an underground shuttle to the Wilhelminaplein.

For almost twenty years, the Kop van Zuid has been undergoing a transformation from a harbour area to a fully fledged, variegated district with it’s circulation provided by the Erasmusbrug.
